I thought the one-sided nature of his lettering was just because he wasn't through with his "rolling billboard" brackets?
Last I heard, he was going to sell space on the "off" side of the coaches to fiber optic companies. Since they have easements on lots of class 1 right-of-way for their fiber lines, it makes sense to hit them up first. As far as I'm concerned, it's a great anachronism of our time.
Even more interesting are the Ariane satellite launch program ads that are scheduled for the late season runs. Since Ariane's new satellite launch vehicle is named after the Austrian birch tree -- a close relative of our aspen, they thought it was a great opportunity to gain exposure for their program.
From an artistic point of view, the best upcoming ads were for the new McDonald's going in west of Antonito. I don't know who did the artwork, but the Golden Arches over Toltec Gorge looked spectacular.
As far as the appropriateness of rail advertising on the C&TS, well, metro companies do this all the time -- John's brackets are just part of the C&TS program to upgrade the core clientele from railfan to commuter. Besides, the sponsorship fees are going to get us the Tuscan Red paint we want, and a high-performance wash-rack at each end of the line.
...ok, Mr. Craft never said he was going to do this -- i made it all up in a moment of sheer confusion.
