I've often thought that Walt Disney has a lot to answer for. He brought us a view of "Main Street" which simply never existed. The formula worked, and others have been busy copying it ever since. Neatness counts, authenticity be d*mned.
On the other hand, in taking another look at some of John's views of Chama, it strikes me that in many ways, the RR property in Chama is, in fact, less neat than it was in the waning days of the Grande. Oh sure, there's a cleaner, neater veneer, with more fresh paint on structures, and a few flowers in flower pots, but it sure seems as though John's pictures indicate that there's actually more general junk'n'clutter now than there was when "back in the day".
John, do the pictures mislead or would you concur.
