Richard,
I share your sentiments about how the D&S is sometimes bashed on the net. I too like both operations. While my preference lies with the C&TS, I still appreciate the fine effort put forth by the D&S to run a very professional and polished looking organization. When you consider the trials and tribulations that come with dealing with 200,000 people from all walks of life and demeaner, I would say that they probably do a respectable job keeping things from going to hell. I am sorry that a "gag" order has been imposed, but I guess I am not surprised. Perhaps the D&S can come up with a question and answer forum on the web sometime in the future.
I had some very friendly conversations with D&S employees last year. While I could sense they did not think they were in paradise, they show they care about what they are doing and it shows in their willingness to present a favorable public image. There is always an undercurrent of unrest and a certain level of unhappiness in nearly every business. That's people and unfortunately that's business. Heck, that even takes place at the C&TS. But in the end, I had great rides on both railroads last year, so my hats off to both operations and their employees. I wish them the best for 2001. Health and financial problems will keep me away this year, but I'll be back in 2002, they can count on it.
