The El Maiten shop was like a ghost town. Not much activity at all. We had Baldwins #1 & 16 on our tour. #16 was damaged in the wreck, so we continued on with #1 solo. No engines were servicable at Esquel. We were hoping for a Henschel to double head up the 4% with #1, but none available, so #1 slogged up solo.

How this railroad survives is a mystery. Apparently there is decent tourist business from Esquel to Nahuel Pan. The northern half from El Maiten to Jaccobacci only sees a couple trains a year.
