One thing to remember is that the grade from the McEwen townsite to approximately the current Highway 7 crossing was relocated in the 1930's, after all of the maps, evaluations etc. were made. This re-alignment was not huge and would not account for a half mile difference, but the new grade was straight where the old had a slight curve. This would need to be considered when trying to determine a fairly precise distance. There are railroad artifacts appx. 200 feet north of the present grade near McEwen depot, but it is not known how much these were disturbed by the dredging.
