Love them old Chevy's. My dad owned a '49 three quarter ton and a '53 half ton. My older brother drove around a '42 Fleetmaster 2 door (Car) war model for a while in high school. I bought a '46 Fleetmaster 4 door (Car) from a retired railroader in when I was in high school (1975??) for $50 and drove it all over the place. I didn't restore it though....... I replaced the engine/transmission with a 250 + fully synchronized 3 speed from a '67 Camaro, converted to 12V (alternator), added cruise & A/C. Never did come up with a solution for the worn out integral hydraulic shocks on the upper control arms....... just installed a grease zerk in the cap a kept pumping them full of grease.......
I worked in an independent auto repair shop in a small town in Kansas while I was in high school and got to work on some pretty neat old vehicles from the 30's, 40's and 50's.... and this was in the late 70's.
