Speaking of turning over bits in the dirt. One of the fascinating things about the Kennecott and the NN is apparently they just never threw anything away. Perhaps it was Ely's isolation. If something new arrived they seemed to have kept the old one it replaced, perhaps "just in case". The best example of this was in the offices above the station (which is actually part of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, and technically seperate from the Nevada Northern Museum proper). In a closet were at least three maybe four generations of typewriters, starting with 1906 and ending up with 1960 era electrics.
Poking around the shops they still have stencils for Nevada Consolidated Copper, and so on. And of course adding to that is the staff simply walked away leaving everything in place as it was on the last day of operations. Calendars, record books, etc. Absolutely amazing place.
