Yes Scott I agree that in actual D&RGW railroad terms Durango is a mere shadow of what it once was. It was headed for abandonment, One thing no one can dispute is that time marches on, and for those of us looking to recreate the past today are fooling ourselves. The Bradshaws and the Harpers may be personally train buffs, but when millions of bucks are on the line you suppose they put it on historical representation? If I had money to put on the line it would go in the direction of the best chance of reproducing itself. If we look at the D&S in that light I believe it's an amazing accomplishment that it exists at all, muted whistles,wood pellets burning at night, people knocking speeders out of the way,and all, I think we should celebrate what it is, THAT it is, rather than bemoan what it isn't.
