It was always my theory that Mills made the quote in question to a local paper around Hawley(Keeler). However I know several people have been going through papers in the area but as far as I've heard nothing has turned up. Could it possibly be oral history only passed down from various individuals, or is it possibly falsified? I am interested to see what turns up!
I am currently researching a few quotes about the NCNG that I discovered in a local history book. One of them I have found a reference, the other I am still investigating. One of them is a quote stating the color of the Naval Supply Depot cars as they came into town (Colfax) for shipment to San Francisco. I managed to find what paper and a general time frame of when this was written, now I just need to find the article in question.
For those of you curious they were reported being a "dark green" by the local paper, however when I find the actual article it may shed more light on this.
