I read the thread below and a thought entered my mind- Has anyone studied whether Durango and Silverton makes money on their winter runs?
Consider for a moment that it might not be possible nor reasonable to run over Cumbres in the winter. I'll bet that a run could be made perhaps to Sublette from the Antonito end.
However, if it wouldn't bring a positive revenue, there's no motivation for it. Also, maybe there aren't as many potential riders in the winter in the SLV. Perhaps with the possibility of a Bed and Breakfast at Sublette in the section house, maybe some winter runs might draw a few people, runs on holiday weekends perhaps. Advertise cross country ski/train combinations in the Denver and Colorado Springs markets, it might draw a few people.
Just my thoughts. It might bring in a few dollars when the pot is empty.
