Meanwhile: Back @ Chama Roundhouse...

February 10, 2001 10:39AM
In my quest to model Chama Roundhouse I'm confronted with questions I'd never before considered. [apologes to PMC for squandering the answers] New Question: How was fuel [coal] delivered to feed the plant boilers? I can't find evidence of a coal bin close by. Best guess- through the window[!!]. Al P posted a message suggesting the window-turned-door on the west wall was done to remove a boiler. Maybe, but it seems too small. I'm wondering if this door was created to get coal in. Evidence: photos on pages 7 & 23 of Dorman's C/C w/ a little C show a high side gon spotted at this window/door. The Chili Line book shows the same thing [w/ a drop gon] on page 205. What do you guys think? By the way, in the page 23 photo you can see the "new" door over the top of the gon- this would date the modification to the window as pre-1939. SR
