To All:
Thought I would summarize my findings on the Durango Ice House.
Still do not knonw exactly when it was build but between 1906 and 1920. Was converted to Rio Grande Motors Garage in 1938 or 9. Destroyed by fire in 1947.
There are a number of photo's in The RGS STory
Vol. XI. Two are of particular note. They are shots from Smelter hill looking down on the yard in the early 1940's. Y
u can see the west side of the building and although quite small there do not appear to be any doors or windows in the west side of the building. Granted this is when it is a Motor ways garage. You can see in both photo's the tracks for the ice loading machine and the doors in the south side of the building for loading the ice.
The photo also describes where the Swift and Co ice plant is but I get lost in the description.
All I know for now
Frank
