Either regional differences (we don't have many hardwood forests at 6000 ft.) or just a brain fart on my part.
Locust sounds good, so does poplar. But no wood should ever be used green for a long term restoration of any sort.
My warning about a router still stands. To use one to try and reside a car will be a royal pain in the butt. IF you insist on using a router, then get a good, high end router table and use the router as a stationary small shaper.
If Bill reads this... Find a local cabinet shop in Grand Junction (there should be one) and get a quote from him. Pre-milled and grooved lumber is well worth the extra expense.
An alternate source of lumber machining might be the Royal Gorge RR. They had a number of woodworking machines in Silver Plume the last time that I was there and it is unlikely that they have been used much since the move to Canon City. They might be up for some contract work.
