Animas River Railway- What was real reason for dem

The September 1988 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman had a fine article about the new railbus built at Durango for the Rockwood to Cascade operation. The article spoke highly of the machinery and operation. What really went wrong? Was it the machinery or did the traffic base never supported the operation. The trailer car is still on the D&S but where is the power Car?
