"Animas River Railway." Rockwood-Elk Park offered two different schedules from which to choose during the summer season.
The Railbus provided service for backpackers, fishermen, hikers, photographers, picnickers and railfans.
A 1990 timetable(schedule #1) lists the 12:01 Cascade Canyon Railbus (May 26 thru September 30) departing Rockwood at 12:01 PM, arriving Cascade Canyon Wye 12:40 PM. Departing from there 1:45 PM and arriving back at Rockwood 2:30 PM.
The same time table (schedule #2) lists Elk Park Railbus (June 16 thru September 3) departing Rockwood 7:30 AM, arriving Elk Park Wye 9:05 AM. departing from there 9:20 AM and arriving Rockwood 11:15 AM. There were intermediate stops at Tacoma, AH! Wilderness, Tall Timbers, Cascade Wye, Teft Spur, Needleton Bridge, etc,
Adult fare to Cascade Canyon Wye was $15, to Elk park $26, children under 12 $7.50 and $13 respectfully.
Tickets could be purchased at the Durango D&SNG depot or from a ticket office car located in Rockwood. The car at Rockwood was an ex D&RGW RPO car, painted pullman green and lettered "Animas River Railway." This same car is now parked inside the fenced area at Hermosa, painted gray and used by D&SNG MofW.
I'm not sure of the exact issue, but Railroad Model Craftsman magazine had a story about the home built Rail Bus (done at Durango by the D&SNG shop fellows), plus plans & pictures.
