Hi,
I watched True Grit again recently. I keep seeing an E in Ridgway even though it is not the correct spelling. Sorry about that,Chief. (Maxwell Smart).
The ex-perts who described the movie said the scene where the Ouray caboose was pulled behind the the ex-RGS Depot was in SILVERTON!!. Then the next shot with the same RGS depot and the movie track in the background was in Ridgway. It surely (and don't call me shirley) shows how uninformed the ex-perts can be.
One point I was interested in though was that the ex-perts mentioned the music in some parts of the movie was taken from the Magnificent Seven - those scenes showing the BIG country had both the True Grit theme and the Magnificent Seven theme intertwined. Now if they had just played mumbly peg in True Grit
I sure wish I'd known how accessible the movie scenes were from Ridgway when I was there.
In another thread about two narrow gauge railroads being in the same movie, the RGS Depot and the D&RGW short caboose were in the opening scenes in "Fort Smith". Bit of a stretch but if part of the RGS was rebuilt for Around the World in 90 Days, True Grit might also qualify.
