According to a fellow fan with access to insiders' info (apparently his dad works for U.P.), two of the four diseasels had failed and the train had stalled before clearing the west switch. Also, as a result of very slow progress from Yermo, the crew had gone dead on the law. A van brought up a fresh crew, and after about two hours the pair of helpers sent from Yermo showed up in the distance

The helpers were coupled on, air was pumped up, and eventually the freight was pushed onto a second siding at the top of the hill

Within just a couple of minutes the first of three westbound trains that had been delayed by the stalled freight headed down the siding and onto the main
