Hello, again -
Just to finish this chapter of the weekend's adventure properly, here are most of the rest of Sunday morning's Ex-Sperry-Mental photos. After more than four dozen photos the day before (including several test shots of diseasels), I finally began to get comfortable with controlling the zoom (and avoiding accidentally pressing the display or menu buttons with my right thumb)
:
To make things easier, the tripod was carefully positioned so that I could swing around for the going-away shots without adjusting the vertical or tilt handles - just the direction and zoom
:
I didn't have time to explore the siding (below), but it appears to be active and to go to a quarry where ballast is obtained - not the Lost Dutchman goldmine
:
The railroad turns right beyond the near hills (above) and then runs fairly straight to Kelso; the dirt road to the left from here out to I-15 is almost twenty miles, and then there's a long stretch of freeway and more than thirty miles from Baker to Kelso on Kelbaker road. If the train hadn't stopped in Kelso to service and water the engine, catching up wouldn't have been possible.
But that's it for now - it's 10:00 pm and time for Bosco and me to have dinner
