Hi, again -
Many thanks to the kind-hearted fellow railfan whom I met at the city park north of Victorville on Saturday who encouraged me to follow up on a hunch and make a side trip to check out Afton Canyon on my way to Kelso and Cima Hill.
After an evening drive on roads that would have been better left 'til daylight, and a rather cold night 'camping out' in the front seat of my car, the sun rose on a spectacular view of a rugged canyon with a railroad running next to a dry riverbed at the bottom of near-vertical cliffs.
Eventually - running about as late on Sunday morning as she had the day before - #844 appeared from behind a curtain of rocks. I continued the previous day's investigation of my new camera's 25-600mm lens by again setting up with a tripod and setting the zoom to maximum for the first couple of shots, and then gradually backed out as the train approached
