Rich,
Check with your MV specialist. I've heard that the GMC military engines were also manufactured by other automotive companies under license. I've heard Packard was one. What doesn't make sense, is why would a trailer mounted power unit be equipped with a 5 speed transmission with 5th gear being an overdrive? The front drivers side of the 361 block has a boss and an opening for an air compressor that was driven in the same manner as a mechanical fuel pump. It mounted to the bolt holes in the boss. There's no doubt the 361 was mfg. by GMC, but if not for a halftrack, what was the application? The Dolores guys relied heavily on military vehicle collectors for info on rebuilding their 361, maybe they can help. I still go by the info Karl Schaefer of the Ridgway Museum unearthered from 30 boxes of RGS material he has.
