Mike, in the Narrow Gauge News of January 1950, it is reported that a power swap is under way between Alamosa and Salida. The K36s to Salida and the K37s to Alamosa. Reason? The K37s will pull 1 more car up Cumbres Pass. This would indicate that business was picking up on the Alamosa end and was expected to pick up even more as time went on. As it turned out, 1956 and 1957 were peak years for the pipe rush.
