We are in desperate need of a few long spout oil cans for the locomotives on the C&TS. Over the years they have been lost/stolen/borrowed or otherwise destroyed until we have but two left that are usable.
There are a couple of outfits which still make something they call a long oiler. One is a modern thing painted blue with a spout about 10" long which is about useless. The other is made by some RR tinware outfit that is best suited to be sitting on your bookshelf or perhaps reserved for occasional museum use. We have used them and in the rough service of the real world, they fall apart in a matter of days.
What I am looking for is some generous NG fans who have a spare old long oiler to donate to a worthy cause. I would prefer an unmarked can to keep the collectors at bay but will entertain any and all offers. Because I cannot be responsible for my ham-handed hoggers not taking care of these things, a loaner can is not really an option. Too many things happen to these things out there. If you want it back - you keep it, I don't want Carl Quists stamped RGS nickle plated can he had on 455 the night it got wrecked. I'm looking for a "beater" can that is historically insignificant.
My requirments:
About 1 pint capy
length of spout about 18"
it can have a valve or not
it doesn't leak (very much)
you won't get pissed off at me if Stebbins mangles the poor thing.....
contact me backchannel if you can help.
Thanks,
Earl
