Day Two:
9/21 started out cold and foggy with clouds on the deck and about 150' of visibility. We had a passenger consist of RPO car and 3 coaches. Here was are tearing across the valley at 30mph wondering where the next road crossing is...
At Sierra the fog burned off revealing a beautiful day as will climbed the hill toward Fir.
We did a couple of runbys going up the west side before dropping off the mountain to La Veta for turning, service and water. Here we are back on the the train ready to head west again.
Again we did a runby on the sharp curve just upgrade from the upper tunnel. My track chart shows the curve is 14 degrees on a 2.88% grade.
We did a couple more run bys on up the hill. Here is MP 205.25
And MP 206.2
1744 ducks into the siding at Fir to be passed by the regular passenger train pulled by 459.
One last runby west of Blanca catches 1744 pouring it on, headed for home...
Thanks to Steven Butler who shot the runbys with my camera.
