Mark, yeah I remeber that very long 14 mile trip with 487. You really saved the bacon of Scenic in those days, machining every part we needed.

When I brought 315 down light we did it like going down Cumbres light-alternating brakes and compression. Compression with the new rings and honed cylinders was excellent so no assist was needed from the throttle. The locomotive had a Le Chatelier water brake system at one time, but at this time I see no need to install a drifting throttle.
