At the 550 crossing, the patrol car stops, the man gets out and activates the closing gates and the red lights at the control box. When the gate is down, then the patrol car crosses. The crossing just south of the 550 crossing has been a controversial topic for years. It is a short-cut for the folks on the east side of the tracks and goes directly through the Hermosa yard, although it is fenced off and gated on each side while in the yard itself. This accident may cause the closure of that short-cut for the general motoring public.
