Yeah I hear you Todd. I've been simming for a year now with MSTS. I'm not aware of much Colo. narrow gauge stuff available in payware, but there is almost as much as I could want in freeware. I made the switch mainly because of being frustrated trying to get models to run more like the real ones. But simm trains are a heck of a lot closer and full length raillines to run on to boot. I still build On3 car kits because I like to and I have the time. I know train simming isn't for everyone, but modelers ought to take a look at it. It's not expensive to get started if you have a relatively recent computer. Microsoft Train Simulator is 2001 technology, so It doesn't take a hi end computer. forum is there to answer all your questions, and they have a download library with k36s, K27s, and a slew of Cs, and cars galore to run on RGS Ridgewy to Connect at Durango, the Silverton branch, Chama to Antonito, C&S routes. And others I've missed. Try to FIT that in your basement, AND populate with brass, or even the new MMI's.
