The 3700s also stopped at LaVeta. As part of the investigation in the boiler explosion of the 3703 maintainence records were pulled for the 90 days prior to the October 19, 1952 mishap. That engine was in La Veta several times but never in Alamosa.
I imagine that if the 3700s did not go over La Veta Pass the 3800 wouldn't either.
