Interesting that the DRGW then removed the switch. Strange, I would have thought they would have wanted access to those tracks for the same reason D&S uses them now...storage. But maybe they initially assumed the scrappers would take them out and for some reason later they were saved. Or I wonder if the scrappers did remove them and then the DRGW or D&S realized they needed more storage room and relaid them. The Google aerial view (thanks John) certainly shows them in the right location to be original.
I just looked at the pictures I took in October 1969, my last visit to Durango until 1985. I have no pictures of the yard. I must have been so pissed to see the sad state of things that I didn't want to waste film on it.
