Good to hear from you Les. I believe the east end(s) of at least some of the original yard tracks exist to this day, tied into the loop down around where you described and now used for storage. Maybe Coke or Earl can confirm or deny. I had always assumed that was something the D&S had done, or at least something that was done after the mainline was pulled up. But from what you say it sounds as if the DRGW did it just slightly before the line was torn up. Like most I had assumed that the diamond and the ash pit were the only connection after the new loop was put in. I guess a second train that might have used the switch you describe would have been the return movement of the equipment from Alamosa. Never too much ng. trivia!
