When I was right out of graduate school in October 1979, a couple of us decided to take the RGZ from Denver to SLC and then catch the Amtrak to Reno for a conference. Things were going great until breakfast when I was looking forward enjoying the scenery while having fresh eggs and bacon. I was about to pour a glass of water out of a pitcher when I looked inside it and found a two-inch cockroach floating around in it. Needless to say, that memory is still with me as much as going over Solider Summit at night and seeing all the campfires in the new snow along the ROW -- it was the start of hunting season, but one could think it was hobo camps in the 30's.
Regarding the cockroach, it can happen anytime -- last week I opened my MacDonalds deluxe breakfast to find a dime-sized spider on my pancakes!
