The South African Railways 4-8-4s, as well as various classes of 4-8-2s, some 2-8-4s, and 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garretts, are 'cape gauge', which is 42" gauge. The narrow gauge there was 2'. They are beautiful engines, not hard to get used to at all.
The PA's were originally Santa Fe, and wore a blue version of the warbonnet paint scheme on the D&H. The soap opera story of their return was well documented on the web about a year to year and a half ago (it took that long!). They are now in Oregon to be rebuilt by Doyle McCormack. (Sorry for the standard gauge digression).
