I agree he explained a real railroader's point of view perfectly. That is how the DRGW would have done it. That is how the D&S probably does it. Hell, for that matter that is how the UP would do it today.
But that in a way is exactly the problem. If you're a real railroader your job is to get the freight or passengers from here to there with reasonable reliability, cost and safety.
But the C&TS is only partly a real railroad. It is also a museum, or at least I hope it is also a museum. A museum if different from a real railroad. And therein lies an inherent conflict.
I think the conflict can be managed with a little common sense, and indeed I think there may also be some synergies. But the potential for conflict is real, and will be a problem for somebody if it is not clearly understood and managed in a way that balances the needs of both.
