I understand a lot of people in New Mexico read the New Yorker. Drives the natives crazy.
But I think the axe thing makes a very good point. If you replace stuff in kind so that it looks and functions like the original, then maybe you're screwing around with the original fabric (which will make some folks unhappy), but at least you can still show people what an axe was used for.
The problem is when you put a different kind of head on it and a differnet length handle, and suddenly you have a big hammer instead of an axe.
