Lake Compounce is in Bristol, CT, about 20 minutes north of Waterbury. For many years it was home to the peculiar 17" gauge equipment owned by William Gillette, some of which has since been returned to the grounds of his East Haddam "castle." Do you mean Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH? I've never been personally but have heard of a 2' Crown running there. I believe it's one of their later models so more likely than being "converted" it probably left the factory set up for propane firing, which was more or less standard on Crowns by the early '70s.
