The head blocks are the two castings (or in some cases forgings) which capture the 4 stub rails, and across which the swing rails swing. Both the head blocks and the harp switch stand are bolted or spiked to the “head” tie (which provides the fixed point for the system). The switch stand mast is attached to the long bridle, which is in turn attached to the swing rails, allowing the switch stand to change the switch position.
