300 Miles too Long or 300 years too soon

The D.O. Mills quote has been around a while. But, I am told that all attempts to verify the quote have come to not.
However, it was recorded that Lord Baker of the Borax company on riding the Tonopah & Tidewater (fiananced by the Borax company) said that it was 150 miles too long or 150 years too soon. Baker, California, was named for him -- but that's another story.
Take your pick.
