Rod,
I sense some confusion as to just who we are, with SVRy and SVMW being used interchangeably here on ngdiscussion.
SVRy is of course the Railroad. Our official name is Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration, Inc., (SVRR). The contract with CHS to overhaul 1203 has always been with the Railroad. SVRR (or SVRy, we use both initials), is a 36 year old non-profit organization formed under the Oregon State Statues for non-profits.
Sumpter Valley Machine Works, LLP. was formed to provide repair and rebuild services. SVMW is a for-profit company. Keeping expertise within SVMW on site at McEwen means that expertise is available to work on SVRy motive power when needed. SV Machine Works rents floor space and tools from SVRy. 1203 has been largely sub-contracted out to SVMW. Motors and the generator were rebuilt in Portland.
Jerry Huck is with SVRy and supervises the project on behalf of the Railroad, reporting to the Board of Directors.
Scott Hutton is the owner of SVMW, and is also a long-time volunteer member of SVRR.
I hope this clears any misunderstanding about who we are.
Dan Denham
V. President, SVRR
