The railroads have been lobbying to do away with daily and 92-day inspections for some time now, with engines to be inspected only when something breaks down, as is done with freight cars now. On our RR, engineers are given $5 to do the daily trip inspection, though none of them know how to read a wheel gauge or actually do a real inspection. Today's RR oficials have no conscience and will always put profit ahead of safety, despite using the word safety in every other sentence they put out.
Vladimar Lenin had the right idea of what to do with the corrupt in power - just shoot the bastards and get on with it...
