Banding was not the only problem. I went through three Alps 5000 printers while still under warranty back when they were in production. The one I have now still functions, but I am not sure for how long. I printed out some white decals for a friend recently and it worked ok, but one never knows when it will get funky. It was the only printer available at a reasonable cost that printed in white as well as color, black and metalic gold and silver.
Too bad, cause I have a lot of graphics that I spent a lot of time generating using CorelDraw. Mostly for SVRy, but some artwork for others. Without a white ink printer, my files just occupy memory space.
Alps used an 8mm cartridge with dry wax transfer inks. These cartridges are no longer available. There is a cartridge for each color, and the machine holds 7 cartridges at a time. This allowed one to have full color, black, metalic and white available. However, mine will only work with 4 cartridges at a time. Otherwise, it binds up and quits working.
I would certainly like to see a manufacturer make a white ink jet printer.
If anyone knows of a white ink printer for home use (not too $$), I would sure like to hear about it.
BTW, I think we still have some SVRy decals for sale in the Gift Shop. Am I right on this Taylor?
