Re: Question Regarding Steam Rotaries

During my time at WP&YR the Rotary #1 suffered a broken half axle in 2000 as I recall. It was repaired in 2000. In April of 2001 the Rotary pushed by steam locomotives #73 and #40 (leased from Georgetown Loop) was used to help open the line to Fraser B.C. I left the WP&YR in Sept of 2001. To the best of my knowledge Rotary #1 has not been used since but is stored serviceable.
I am trying to remember exactly how many times we used the Rotary 0Y when I was in Chama. As I recall we used it in 4 of the 6 years I was there. During that time it also suffered a broken half axle. That was replaced and the superstructure was rebuilt in 95/96. It was last used in 1997 after I left for Alaska. Jack Campbell told me it has a loose piston on the left side and left side half axle bearings should be inspected and adjusted. Other than that it was stored serviceable in the fall of 1997.
If people have pictures from any of the operations either on the C&TS or the WP&YR I would love to see them posted. I was too busy at the time to get many photos.
