[I posted this message under the long string regarding rotaries but feel that it may be lost there. So I thought I would repost it as a new message.]
What is the condition of rotaries OM and OY on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic and of the rotary on the White Pass & Yukon? What would be necessary to get them all operational again? How much might that cost? Since John Bush has been involved in the reconditioning and operation of the rotaries on both railroads, perhaps he has some idea of their present condition. No doubt others now employed by the railroads do too.
I thought the videos put out some years ago on the last operation of rotary OY were spectacular. I recall one video where both Earl and John gave the viewer a detailed look at the operation of OY. Perhaps global warming will result in greater snow levels over the winter on both railroads, thus necessitating the operation of the rotaries once again. While I understand the bulldozers can now do an efficient job of snow drift removal, the rotaries are far more photogenic. I hope that will run again some day, and we will have new videos to view.
