I read someplace that usually only the one locomotive would be fixed up for the builder's photo. This would usually be applying a gray, instead of black, color and adding white tires and the like. Then it would be changed back to the conventional paint before shipment.
The builder's photo is of the 101 and the engine on the turn table is 102. I does seem that the 102 is just delivered; note that the stack is yet to be applied.
