Colorado cold spots

December 21, 2006 05:05PM
I'm with Matt. There're few colder places in our fine state than Gunnison. I love the place, but man it gets cold there, and it STAYS cold. A close second would have to be Tabernash, a place where the locomotives would regularly freeze to the rails back in the days of Rio Grande (and Moffat Road) mainline steam.
As for tough, though...
I learned a long time ago when I moved out of the mountains and down to the Front Range corridor that I'd happily take the 2' of snow we'd get in Leadville over a mere 6" in Denver or Colorado Springs. It doesn't matter a d*mn if you and your vehicle are capable of handling poor conditions when everyone around you isn't.
Hard to tell how much we got here on the west end of Greeley, as the wind blew it around so much. I can say it was a LOT though.
Still digging out,
Scott
