The C&S TT is 100 foot long and is complete with exception to the ring rail and the wall. All the tie timbers were in Chama in 1997.
The Alamosa TT was 85 foot long and was cut down in length by Floyd Reed for the C&TS back in the 70’s. Mr. Reed was never paid for his efforts so when Don Drawer of The Sundown & Southern offered a little cash for it. Reed let him take it.
I asked about purchasing it from Don when I was in Chama and received a firm Hell No.
When the C&S table became available, 6 Flags paid over 20K to have it taken apart and loaded on trucks. An interested party that worked for Road Runner Trucking made trucks running light from Denver to New Mexico available for carrying the 60 tons of TT to Chama. We off loaded all with local equipment. In the end the Commission and GB paid out only $4,500.00 for the entire deal.
I would rather not insert my self into this one again but am afraid that the C&TS will never have the round house facility needed to try and maintain engines to last forever the way that the Rio Grande had round house shops to maintain for a projected life of about 40 years. The Arguments on all sides have merit but I don’t see a 3rd shop with TT & round house in the near future.
If the Alamosa table made it to Chama maybe a few of the hard core meddlers of late could look the other way while something constructive happens.
But then again “NOT”
Two steps forward then three more back.
