If I recall correctly, I believe that I heard the one in Chama now is too long as well as not the correct type for a exact replacement to the origional one that was at Chama. I heard that the origional turntable was too short to handle the K36 and K37s that were then in use so it and seven stalls of the roundhouse were removed. (I am not sure of my 'facts'? here so someone who knows please correct me.)
So at this point, I see three options, #1, use what we have sitting in the swamp. #2, build an exact replica at great expense and have it be too short for current power. #3, do nothing for now and keep looking for something that will fit better, possibly longer to handle the engines now on the property.
If any turntable is installed, you must then deal with the issue of what to do about the missing part of the roundhouse, (7 stalls). Not much need for a turntable if you have only a 2 stall building. If you rebuild the missing stalls, how are you going to tie them in with the 'new' engine house that is currently being used? Remember that the old building isn't long enough to house a K36, or K37. Do you make a drive through out of 2 of the stalls? How historic is that? No easy answers here, and all are expensive...
