I have pics of 489 over the side in this area. All of the track has fresh fill along it indicating the RR has been picking this area up for years.
It's easy to blame the highway dept for all of this and the problems we had in 1982 surely could be directed at them as one could see the water coming down the slope above the highway, flowing into the ditch and sitting there until it soaked in. The highway is flat there and the ditch does not have a culvert under the pavement. The water them came out below the grade and took the RR with it. But, the whole world up in that area is a giant pile of mud ready to move at the slightest provocation - and has been for years.
I bet in my first years in Chama most of the time, the very first job I did when I got called back in the spring was to run work trains to MP336.
