Both pics are of the same spot. In May 1982 - the first spring Kyle Rys was on the property, the roadbed dropped out from under the track at this point. The track was removed and the roadbed filled in. The next morning we found the new roadbed was 15' down the mountain. Below that you could see oak brush trees being shoved out of the ground from underneath. There was some serious underground activity going on here! We filled it in again and on the 2nd morning all of our previous work was 10' below track level.
We decided to "shoo-fly" around the spot. we had to blast a point off the rock next to mile post 336 and then tried to blast the base of the rock down so to have a more level roadbed. The rock wouldn't cooperate so the track sits on the rock at that point creating a bit of a hump in the track.
Eventually the ground movement stopped. And it might be possible to relay the track on the original alignment today.
BTW MP 337 is the S-curve upgrade from the 2nd highway xing. 336 is in the pics shown. 335 is just upgrade from Cresco Tank.
