The Fibark Boat Race train went up and back in a day. As far as the Royal Gorge, I always wondered how the railroad go the equipment and crews back after the last run of No. 1. The engine crew was from Pueblo and the train crew from Denver. That would answer my question.
BTW, in addition to the State Fair and Fibark train, the Rio Grande ran a National Western Stock Show train. John Rose Sr. longtime hostler and fellow Pueblo City Park train engineer said one time somebody forgot to connect the train to depot steam overnight. It took the entire car department and several peoplke from the roundhouse to thaw that train that cold January morning.
