Re: How do you shovel oil?

For what it's worth, 1744 is currently burning diesel fuel (or as we tell the world, "#2 Fuel Oil". when Robert Franzen was here working on 1744 he related that when he was at the GCRY he made the switch to #2 from other heavier fuel oils because of inconsistancies of the BTU rating of the heavier oil. One batch would burn great, the next would burn hot enough to make enough steam. #2 fuel was much more consistant.

We would like to burn heavier oil, as it has more BTU's, but it's consistant availablity is questionable. We are the only consumer of such a product in the area. There isn't enough waste oil generated in the Valley to burn that, so waste oil would have to be imported. Transportation of the oil is a killer. We might save $1/gal on fuel, then spent $.75/gal tranporting it, then spend ???$$$$ in storage tanks and pumping equipment.
