Re: 2007 Steam Charter in South Africa

Got an e-mail from Dave Rodgers today. He met his minimum yesterday and expects to be sold out by this evening! The "last trip" notice really got people's attention.
I took several of Dave's trips in the 1990's and they were great. I got much better pictures than I ever did during "real" steam days in South Africa, since by the time I got there in 1985 they were pretty much down to the Kimberly - DeAar raceway and the Bethlehm line, plus a few branch lines.
South African steam in later years had a very American feel to it, since the the designs were based on US practice, but modified to meet South African practice (vacuum brakes instead of air brakes).
